Smart HART® |
 |
Intelligent measurement instruments of Endress+Hauser can be equipped with the standardised HART® protocol. This will enable you to use the advantages of digital communication, e. g. the configuration of instrument parameters and status display, on basis of the proven 4...20 mA technology. And this with your existing instrumentation. |
| |
Command classes |
 |
The HART® protocol defines three command classes. The universal commands are supported by all HART® instruments. Universal commands offer a basic set of functions. These functions are used for the recognition of HART® instruments and for reading the digital measured value. The generally used commands offer functions which are supported by many but not by all HART® instruments.
They are used to read digitally up to four measured values and to handle basic configurations like the span. The commands specific to individual devices permit the access to instrument data which is not HART® standardised. Examples for this are special items of service, diagnosis information and extended maintenance operations. |
| |
Device descriptions |
 |
Device descriptions (DD) need HART® masters, e. g. hand-held terminal or PC-based operating programs, in order to permit access to all of the information in a HART® device. DDÆs allow HART® masters the execution of routines and the interpretation of information which may only be transferred via specific commands. HART® masters which are able to process device descriptions offer maximum interoperability of HART® devices of the most varied manufacturers. Device descriptions are available for all Endress+Hauser instruments. They have been registered at the HART® Communication Foundation (HCF). |
