Endress+Hauser PROFIBUS® Device Description Files (EDDs for PDM)

All PROFIBUS® DDs are tested in Siemens SIMATIC PDM Version 5.2 SP1 and 6.0 SP1, SP2

You can integrate devices into SIMATIC PDM later on.

The following files are required for integration into PDM startin with V6.0 SP1:

File name	Description
<device>.dd	Profile description file
<device>.devices	on catalog classification
<device>.gs*	Device master file (only in the case of PROFIBUS devices)
<device>.bmp	Bit map for representation (only in the case of PROFIBUS devices)

All the kits of device description files that are listed below, can be obtained from the Endress+Hauser Download Area.

Unlike previous versions of SIMATIC PDM V6.0 SP1, the "DeviceInstall" software is no longer required. Use the "SIMATIC PDM Manage Device Catalog" tool instead which can be found under "START > SIMATIC > SIMATIC PDM > SIMATIC PDM Manage Device Catalog".

The catalog starting with version 6.0 SP1 of SIMATIC PDM is not released for use in any older version of SIMATIC PDM. However, you can use manufacturers' device descriptions which had been created for older versions of PDM.

Since Siemens field devices are integrated into SIMATIC PDM, the procedure shown is using the "Levelflex M" from Endress+Hauser as an example.

Integration procedure


	Extract the device manufacturer's files to any folder: e.g. "C:\Level\Levelflex M ". In the case of network drives, ensure that you have linked them via a drive letter.
	Start the "Manage Device Catalog" tool via "START > SIMATIC> SIMATIC PDM > SIMATIC PDM Manage Device Catalog". Click the "Browse..." button and select the path in which you have saved the files which are extracted in step 1. You are now shown a tree structure depicting all the device installations which are present in this folder and in subordinate folders. Now select which devices you require by marking the corresponding option box. Click "OK" to install the devices.
	During the installation, the device is automatically copied to the correct folder ("...\Siemens\PDM\SIM_PDM\devices\PA\Sensor\Level\EH\Levelflex_M"). There are two files in this folder ("PA_Sensor_LEVEL_EH_LevelflexM.dct" and " PA_Sensor_LEVEL_EH_LevelflexM.ddl"). This means that the device is available in the device overview for SIMATIC PDM.

Please note:


	The "deviceinstall.exe" tool is not supported starting with SIMATIC PDM V6.0 SP1.
	The Manage Device Catalog" tool doesn't just use files in the selected folder, it also browses all the subfolders in the selected path. If it finds other "*.devices"-type files there, these devices are also made available for installation.
	Manufacturers' websites offer the possibility of installing device drivers at a later date. Use the search engine to look for these Websites using the search term "SIMATIC PDM".
