Integration standards
What is FDT/DTM?
FDT (Field Device Tool) is a technology that enables end-users to integrate the entire system's field equipment assets into a single operations, maintenance and life-cycle management environment.
Why is FDT important?
- FDT Technology allows the end-user to leave all installed plant field equipment assets in-place
- FDT products solve the multi-device and multi-protocol operations, maintenance and life cycle management challenge
- FDT allows the end-user freedom of choice in the selection of field equipment and enables standardization of the life-cycle management of all field equipment, while lowering total cost of ownership
- FDT preserves your investment
All configuration and communication information is carried in Device Type Manager (DTM) programs (DeviceDTMs, CommDTMs, iDTM) supplied by the vendor. The DTMs run under the control of a FDT frame application:
- Open technology, independent of device or system supplier
- Independent of device type (sensor, actuator, remote I/O etc.)
- Full support of installed base
- Full device functionality
- Independent of communication protocol - Ethernet, HART, PROFIBUS, FOUNDATION fieldbus™, etc.
- Vertical integration by nested communication
- iDTM-HART interprets HART-DDs/EDDs and allows the integration of 3rd party HART devices in FieldCare which have no appropriate DTM.
