New capacitive probes for continuous level measurement in liquids

Endress+Hauser announces new Liquicap M FMI51/52

Liquicap M FMI51 and FMI52

Greenwood, IN 46143, November 5, 2007-- Endress+Hauser presents a new generation of capacitive probes for continuous level measurement in liquids of any kind:  Liquicap M FMI51/52. The new probes combine the advantages of the tried and tested measuring principle with new developments in engineering.

Liquicap M is available both as rope and rod version.   Its modular instrument design creates a high degree of flexibility in the selection of the suitable instrument. Main areas of application are storage, buffer and process tanks in the chemical and food industry.  Liquicap M provides ideal properties for these industries.

Highest degree of process safety

The requirements concerning plant and process safety of a measuring point are steadily increasing. Liquicap M meets theses requirements with an innovative safety concept. The integrated two-stage ESD protection secures the electronics against overvoltage. Newly developed algorithms safeguard stable measured values, even in situations with strong build-up. A gastight feedthrough protects against aggressive and toxic media. Liquicap M reliably monitors damage to insulation and even rod or rope breakage.

Rough environmental conditions can be overcome by a separate electronics. Liquicap M relieves users from all worries when equipping a measuring point.

Functional safety

The international guidelines for functional safety according to SIL2 (IEC 61508) were strictly adhered to and implemented during the development of Liquicap M. The approval according to SIL2 comprises min. monitoring, max. monitoring as well as range monitoring (0 to 100%). This approval provides another advantage, i.e. permanent automatic monitoring of electronics via special diagnosis functions.

Hygienic design

Liquicap M meets the stringent requirements of the food industry with a special hygienic version. Materials which can be steam-cleaned, a gapless sealing concept involving corresponding process connections and the stainless steel housing are important factors. Plastic parts in contact with media are constructed of materials accepted by the FDA. If requested, all metal parts in contact with media can be provided of 3.1 certified materials.

Easy assembly and commissioning

Liquicap M is preset at the factory eliminating the need for on-site calibration. If needed, specific requirements can be handled on site via a menu-guided plain text display. The ToF-Tool/ FieldCare operating software offers the advantages of comfortable parameterizing from the control room and extensive measuring point documentation as compared with onsite operation. An intelligent electronic memory (EEprom) saves all probe parameters, even when electronics are exchanged, no need for time-consuming recalibration.
