The Endress+Hauser Group, specialists in process automation, has begun construction on its new sensor plant at the Techno Park of Stahnsdorf near Berlin, Germany. Matthias Altendorf, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser GmbH+Co. KG, Mayor Gerhard Enser and Plant Manager Dieter Stolze yesterday laid the symbolic cornerstone of the new building. Modern production, office and laboratory facilities with over 3,000m2 of floor space and with investments totaling €8.5 million will be located in the town's industrial zone by the end of 2009. The new competence center is designed to accommodate the expansion of the international Group's research and development activities with the focus on silicon pressure sensors. |

The company's previous production site at Teltow has so far produced silicon sensors and sensor subassemblies. The expertise that the company has acquired over many years now helps to develop high-precision measurement technology. The components are fitted into electronic pressure gauges at the company's parent plant in Maulburg in south Germany. The products made by Endress+Hauser are marketed and sold worldwide and are in use in every industry.
Matthias Altendorf reports: "Many years ago we bought parts from the state-owned appliance and controller company Wilhelm Pieck. At the Maulburg site we now benefit from the many years of experience that our people in Brandenburg have gathered in silicon sensor technology.” In Stahnsdorf, Endress+Hauser found the ideal conditions for a new building. Better still, good connections with universities and research institutions help to make the site into a unique competence center.
Dieter Stolze is thrilled: "We have looked forward to this day for years. Our industry has grown at breakneck speed for some time and we want to follow this trend at our new site in Stahnsdorf and increase our productivity. The development department will be particularly pleased about the new opportunities and options available in the new building.” All employees will move from Teltow to the new site.
Vocational training is one of Endress+Hauser's major concerns. Five trainees are currently learning a technical trade at the site. The company has also employed a number of additional engineers to support the development department. "The continued growth of the company will lead to more new jobs,” forecasts Dieter Stolze.
With the hi-tech business moving in, Mayor Gerhard Enser sees a great deal of potential for his community: "With its decision to set up a new site here, the innovative family-owned company makes a substantial contribution to the continued development of the Techno Park.” Building work at the Techno Park will begin in April 2008. Dieter Stolze is confident: "If building work progresses as planned, we expect the new building to be completed in the first quarter of 2009. By the fall of 2009, we should have moved and be fully operational at the new site.”
